Barry has been in the industry for 30 years and in that time he has learnt that the catering industry isn’t as easy as it looks !
Barry first went to Switzerland to work in the hotel sector at the age of 17 and soon fell in love with the industry, this led him to go onto to work in Sydney for 2 years where he continued his passion for wine before returning to London.
Barry’s soon became the head Sommelier at the 1 star Michelin Restaurant “The Canteen” Marco Pierre White and then he moved on to become head Sommelier at The Criterion and Quo Vadis all within the MPW group ending up as the group wine buyer for the company . After a number of years with years working for Marco Barry was approached to take on the role of Food & Beverage Director of the newly opening 5* St Martins lane hotel & Sanderson Hotel which included Asia de Cuba , The Long bar and The Purple Bar
After the successful pre-opening and opening of these properties Barry decided to go it alone and scraped together enough money to open the Greyhound in Stockbridge which was awarded 1 Michelin Star in the second year of operating.
As the years went by Barry was continuously being asked to help others in the industry on openings and also restaurants with operational difficulties which led him to conceive in 2011 Running with Knives Consultancy which today has assisted over 300 hospitality companies in the Uk and UAE
Today Barry is also the operating partner of the acclaimed and successful Albion Pub in In Islington and Chairman of Burman Hospitality which has the sole franchise for Taco Bell India which is a 600 store roll out.
